2019 National Accelerated Training Program

      2019 National Accelerated Training Program

The Forest Service is announcing the National Accelerated/Advanced Training Program (NATP) for 2020. This program is a great opportunity for leadership development in the Agency with a foundation on the advancement of incident management knowledge and experience. Participation is aimed at highly motivated nominees that would benefit from exposure to regional and national issues and mentoring by mid-level and senior leadership. It establishes an environment that brings our experienced leaders together with those developing leadership skills in a relationship of mentoring and learning.
NATP requires a dedicated commitment of one year but the relationships and experience can benefit the individual and the Agency for an entire career. Applicants need to have a targeted position of leadership (Line or Staff position) that they aspire to, a current position task book in the ICS system or working toward a non-task book position, and approval from their supervisor to be away from the home unit and regular position duties for up to two weeks at a time. Travel, training, and salary while away from the home unit will be covered under a special project code.
Objectives:
1.      Build leadership and incident management capacity to meet fire management and Forest Service challenges.
2.      Commitment towards enhancing and accelerating both leadership development and incident management skills.
3.      Streamline training and qualification timeframes through focused training plans.
4.      Work in coordination with National, Geographical, and Zone training groups on selection of applicants and implementation of the program.

Key Dates:
·         July 15, 2019 – Announcement and Applications Released
·         August 16, 2019 – Applications Due to Regional Training Officers
·         September 20, 2019 – Selection Process Complete

Interested applicants should return the enclosed application to their respective Fire and Aviation Management Regional Training Officer by August 16, 2019. Applicants should be permanent employees. There are no restricting criteria on grade level, position, or incident qualification for acceptance into the program; however, participation is limited to approximately 25 people in 2020.
