PT Test and Refresher Information

                The PT Test for the 2016 Season in the Forest Service has gone back to the way it was in the past.  Sit-Ups are back!  So… 1.5 Mile Run: 11 minutes, Pull Ups: 7, Push Ups: 25, Sit Ups: 45

                This season we will not have a late refresher in Region 1 and the refreshers we do have are as follows:

Overhead/Trainer Refresher: March 14-18

Classroom/Fire Refresher: March 21-25

Ram Air Jump Refresher: March 28- April 1

Round/Mixed Load Jump Refresher: April 4-8

                If you are not able to attend the appropriate refresher or have a scheduling conflict, please notify training and alternatives can be discussed.

2016 Shane Ewing Scholarship Winner

It is the Shane Ewing Memorial Scholarship Committee's pleasure to announce that the 2nd annual recipient is Erin Springer, who is currently obtaining her Master's in Forestry with a concentration in Resource Conservation from the University of Montana. She states, "My research has encompassed the success and failure of water quality improvement projects in developing countries. The growth I have experienced from developing a research project, collecting and statistically analyzing quality data will greatly contribute to future professional goals." Erin currently jumps out of Missoula. Nice work Springer!

2016 Smokejumper Physicals

     Everything is all set for getting your physical for 2016.  Nothing too drastic has changed in the process other than the location of Occupational Health if you decide to use that provider.  Come on into Training and we'll get you the paperwork you'll need.  Here are a few things to remember:

1.     Physicals need to be completed before taking your PT test.

2.     AFD will pay up to $144 for the physical. If your personal physician charges more, you will need to cover the difference.

3.     AFD has a letter of agreement with Occupational Health of the Providence Medical Group in Missoula and are familiar with smokejumper physicals.

4.     To schedule an appointment with Occupational Health: (406) 329-5746.

5.     Occupational Health Office has moved. It is now located off of Reserve St. in the same complex as Arby’s and Taco Del Sol.
